use of ChemTube3D

Enhancing the value of interactive 3D chemistry (iChem3D)

iChem3D
ChemTube3D

iChem3D is a JISC funded project that sets out to investigate the use of ChemTube3D an interactive, freely available, resource providing 3D simulations and animations modelling the structure and reactivity of organic molecules.

Team at UoLiverpool is researching the current use and investigating the development of a range of learning designs to be used in blended self-directed learning.

Currently they are investigating the use of ChemTube3D to establish the types of visitors using the resource and also how it is used and would like to hear how ChemTube3D is used by students, teachers or professional chemists.

Kumari's 2009 article in Scientometrics 80(3), p559-570, which includes the conclusion that:

"G7 nations, being leaders for the volume of literature published and citations attracted are showing a decreasing trend over the years probably due to shifting and diversification of their research efforts to other emerging research fronts. In contrast smaller nations though publishing low volume but high quality research are represented by Netherlands."

JISC Second Life guide helps lecturers teach in the virtual world

JISC's new guide to Second Life is written by lecturers for lecturers, to help others to use virtual worlds for teaching.

'Getting Started in Second Life' answers some common questions like how to set up in Second Life, what the rules of the world are, how to plan lessons and how best to help students use it effectively for learning.

The aim of the guide is to present the basics in order to help lecturers experiment, rather than them getting lost in mastering the detail of the virtual environment.

To download 'Getting Started in Second Life' or order a paper copy, go to http://www.jisc.ac.uk/publications/documents/gettingstartedsecondlife
